Celtic’s Champions League campaign came to a controversial end as they were eliminated by Bayern Munich in a dramatic second-leg clash.

Trailing 2-1 from the first leg, Nicolas Kuhn gave Celtic hope when he equalized the aggregate score in the 63rd minute, stunning the home crowd. As the clock ticked into stoppage time, Celtic were leading on the night, with four minutes added for stoppages.

However, controversy struck two and a half minutes into added time. With the ball in Bayern’s half, Daizen Maeda surged forward but was brought down by a raised arm from Dayot Upamecano.

The referee missed the contact but noticed Maeda on the ground with a head injury. Within 40 seconds, Bayern launched a counterattack, and Alphonso Davies scored a heartbreaking equalizer.

There was no VAR review of the incident involving Upamecano, and just 30 seconds after the restart, the final whistle blew, ending Celtic’s Champions League journey for the season.

Across their 10 matches in the competition, Celtic recorded three wins and four draws. Daizen Maeda was a standout performer, netting four goals, while Nicolas Kuhn and Adam Idah contributed three goals each. Despite the disappointment, Celtic can reflect on a spirited campaign filled with memorable moments.
