Dutch journalist and former player Johan Derksen has claimed that Leicester City manager Ruud van Nistelrooy made the wrong career move by joining the Foxes and expressed sympathy for the struggling boss.
Leicester are currently fighting to avoid relegation from the Premier League, sitting second from bottom in the league table.
Van Nistelrooy was appointed on 29th November following the dismissal of Steve Cooper, but the Dutchman has yet to steer the Foxes toward significant improvement.
Derksen has been vocal about his assessment of Leicester’s squad, arguing that the team lacks the necessary quality to survive in the top flight.
The Dutch journalist emphasized his sympathy for Van Nistelrooy, stating that the 48-year-old accepted the wrong managerial position.
“I do feel sorry for Van Nistelrooy”, Derksen told Dutch broadcaster Vandaag Inside (via Voetbal Primeur) about the Foxes boss.
“He chose the wrong club. He can’t do anything about that.
“That club simply lacks quality.”
Leicester are currently two points adrift of safety, and with 13 games remaining in the season, it remains uncertain whether Van Nistelrooy can guide the Foxes to survival.
