As reported by the Daily Mail (19 February), Branthwaite is being closely watched by Real Madrid, with the defender eager to test himself at the highest level.
Former Goodison scout Bryan King, speaking exclusively to Goodison News, believes Everton will need to offer Branthwaite a significant pay rise to persuade him to stay.
“I think they’ll be offering him a salary in the region of £150,000 a week,” King said.
“Especially when you see the kind of money that is being offered to players today. Branthwaite grew up at the football club, I’m sure he would like to stay at the football club.
“Moyes will likely be keen to build around Branthwaite and won’t want him sold. Therefore, I think it would be wise for Everton to keep hold of him. He still has things to prove to me. However, he couldn’t ask for a much better manager to develop under.”
Branthwaite ‘to remain at Everton’
While a move to Madrid is undoubtedly tempting, Branthwaite might regret heading to Spain at this stage of his career.
The pressure at the Santiago Bernabéu is immense, and if he doesn’t hit the ground running, Branthwaite could quickly fall out of favour, potentially derailing his development.
For now, it would be more beneficial for him to remain at Everton and continue honing his skills under Moyes, especially as the club prepares for its move to Bramley-Moore Dock.
