Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has delivered a straightforward response to Barry Ferguson’s appointment as Rangers’ interim head coach.

The 47-year-old stepped into the role earlier this week, replacing Philippe Clement on a temporary basis.

Clement was relieved of his duties following a 2-0 home defeat to St Mirren in the Scottish Premiership on Saturday afternoon.

Ferguson has taken charge until the end of the season and, supported by a coaching team including Issame Charai, Billy Dodds, Neil McCann, and Allan McGregor, aims to bring some much-needed stability to the squad.

Speaking ahead of Celtic’s match against Aberdeen this evening, however, Rodgers brushed off a question about Ferguson’s appointment with a blunt reply.

He said [BBC]: “With the greatest respect, I’m concentrating on Celtic vs Aberdeen, and that’s my only focus.”

Rodgers will face Ferguson in a few weeks when the former Rangers captain brings his team to Parkhead on March 16.

The last time Celtic met their city rivals, they suffered a 3-0 defeat at Ibrox, though there is plenty of football to be played before the two Glasgow giants clash again.
