Jack Butland found himself under fire once again as Rangers suffered a humiliating 2-1 defeat to Motherwell on Saturday.
The goalkeeper was at the center of yet another costly error at Ibrox, adding to a growing list of blunders this season, including mistakes in matches against Manchester United.
After putting Barry Ferguson’s side in an early hole, Kenny Macintyre was left stunned as footage of Butland’s mistake reached the BBC Sportsound studio.
Butland Slammed for Role in Motherwell Opener
Rangers fans have been demanding change for months, but little has improved since Philippe Clement’s departure. Ferguson took over the reins at Ibrox and, despite a spirited comeback in his first game against Kilmarnock, the same old issues resurfaced against Motherwell.
Butland failed to hold onto a weak shot in the first half, allowing Luke Armstrong to tap in the opener. The offside flag initially ruled out the goal, but VAR overturned the decision, leaving Rangers trailing.
Speaking live on BBC Radio Scotland (1 March, 15:12), Macintyre couldn’t hide his disbelief.
“It’s a horrendous mistake by Jack Butland,” he said. “Jack Butland, what on earth are you doing there.”

The end of the 2024/25 season can’t come soon enough for everyone associated with Rangers.
Whether it’s the fans or figures like Patrick Stewart, all involved with the Ibrox club will be eager to put this dismal campaign behind them.
Not only do Rangers trail Celtic by a significant margin in the Scottish Premiership, but they were also knocked out of the Scottish Cup in a shocking 1-0 defeat to Queen’s Park.
While they remain in the Europa League, their current form makes it unlikely they’ll progress past Fenerbahce, let alone make a deep run in the competition.
Ferguson was brought in to steady a sinking ship, and while there was a glimmer of hope after the comeback against Kilmarnock, that optimism has been shattered by the defeat to Motherwell.
The future of Rangers remains uncertain, with a massive question mark hanging over the club as they look to rebuild and recover from a season to forget.
