David Moyes’ Everton have reportedly decided against pursuing a permanent deal for 28-year-old Leeds United loanee Jack Harrison.
According to a report from Football Insider, the Toffees will not seek to make Harrison’s move permanent, despite the winger spending the last two seasons on loan at Goodison Park.
Harrison was a key figure for Leeds United during their time in the Premier League. However, following their relegation to the Championship at the end of the 2022/23 season, he departed on a temporary basis, joining Everton on a two-year loan deal in the summer of 2023.
Since his arrival, the Englishman has made 62 appearances for Everton, contributing to seven goals. While his performances have been solid, Harrison has not had the transformative impact the Toffees may have hoped for.
Despite adding Harrison to their squad, Everton have continued to search for more quality on the flanks. David Moyes’ arrival as manager is unlikely to alter their plans. With 15 points from his first eight games in charge, Moyes has all but secured Everton’s Premier League survival, allowing the club to focus on strengthening the squad for next season.
Harrison Not an Ideal Fit for Moyes’ Vision
David Moyes prefers to work with skillful, creative wide players who can add flair and quality to his attacking setup. While Jack Harrison has been a reliable option, his contributions have not been enough to convince Everton to pursue a permanent deal.
The 28-year-old’s versatility, allowing him to play on either flank, is a valuable asset. However, he does not align perfectly with Moyes’ tactical plans, making it unlikely that he has a long-term future at Goodison Park.
With Everton opting against a permanent move, Harrison is expected to return to Leeds United, where his contract runs until the summer of 2028. As Leeds edge closer to a potential return to the Premier League, the winger may welcome the opportunity to rejoin a club where he has previously enjoyed significant success.
