ZeeboiKyogo is reportedly facing a swift departure from Rennes this summer after being sidelined by his new manager once again.
The Japanese forward shocked Celtic supporters in January by ending his memorable three-and-a-half-year stint in Glasgow to join Ligue 1 strugglers Rennes.
Meanwhile, Jota moved in the opposite direction, making a dramatic comeback to Parkhead, much to the delight of the fans. While the Portuguese winger has quickly made his mark with four goal contributions in nine matches, Kyogo has struggled to find his footing.
The £10million signing was expected to help Rennes avoid relegation and climb the league standings. However, just days after finalizing his move, Kyogo suffered a significant setback when Jorge Sampaoli, the man who brought him to France, was dismissed. It’s evident that Kyogo has yet to earn the trust of new head coach Habib Beye.
The prolific striker has seen limited action, playing only 83 minutes for his new club and making just two appearances. He has also been left on the bench in the last two games, including last night’s emphatic 4-0 away victory over Montpellier.
Now, both fans and media in France are beginning to speculate about Kyogo’s future at Roazhon Park, with Rennes-supporting sports journalist Justin Favre forecasting an early exit.
Writing for Jeunesfooteux, he said: “Against MHSC, Beye started players who were already in place during the first half of the season. What about Kyogo Furuhashi arriving this winter for 12 million euros from Celtic Glasgow, the 30-year-old Japanese striker has only played 83 minutes in Ligue 1 so far. Worse, he has been on the bench three times in the last four matches.
“A casting error? Not a choice by Habib Beye who prefers to rely on Arnaud Kalimuendo at centre forward, Furuhashi will have to be patient. In our opinion, it would not be surprising to see him pack up and leave during the next transfer window. The fact remains that some choices are enough to leave you with regrets.”
