This weekend will bring another emotional reunion as Leicester City travel to Chelsea, where former star Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall could feature in the action.
Dewsbury-Hall joined Chelsea last summer after playing a pivotal role in helping his boyhood club secure promotion back to the Premier League.
However, despite reuniting with Enzo Maresca, the Leicester academy graduate’s time in west London has been far from smooth.
This season has largely seen the midfielder confined to the bench, with occasional cameos in the league and more consistent playing time in the Conference League.
Nevertheless, the local lad could find himself lining up against the Foxes on Sunday, having made a substitute appearance during Chelsea’s 3-1 victory over Leicester back in November.
Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall won’t celebrate if he scores against Leicester
Facing a former club is an experience most players will encounter at some point in their careers.
During his visit to the King Power Stadium in November, Dewsbury-Hall was warmly serenaded by Leicester fans, highlighting the deep affection they still hold for him. Many Foxes supporters have even expressed a desire to see him return to the club.
Although he didn’t score in the previous meeting between the two sides, the 26-year-old made it clear after joining Chelsea in July 2024 that he wouldn’t celebrate if he found the net against his former team.
“If I score against them I won’t celebrate,” he revealed to Leicestershire Live.
“I wish them the best of luck for this season. I wanted to test myself at the next level. This felt like the right time and I wouldn’t have left Leicester for a sideways move – it had to be a top move.”
Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall may not be at Chelsea next summer
As previously mentioned, Dewsbury-Hall’s move to Stamford Bridge hasn’t been particularly successful.
The midfielder has started just one league game this season and made 19 appearances across all competitions.
Speculation swirled in January about a potential return to Leicester, and a summer exit now seems increasingly plausible.
Ultimately, Dewsbury-Hall remained at Chelsea, but Maresca hinted in December that his future could still be uncertain.
Speaking after Chelsea’s win against Shamrock Rovers, he said: “Unfortunately, I cannot say that (he is definitely going to stay), not about Kiernan, about all the squad, because when the transfer window is open, unfortunately, anything can happen.”
