TBR Football can exclusively reveal that Johnny Cardoso is eager to join Tottenham Hotspur this summer.

Tottenham have held a non-mandatory purchase option worth £20.8 million to sign the Real Betis midfielder since the summer of 2025.

However, Spurs allowed Cardoso to continue his development in Spain, where he has flourished – earning a contract extension with Betis until 2030 in February.

Given the 23-year-old’s impressive performances for Real Betis, Tottenham have been in discussions to secure his signature at the end of the season.

Wolves also submitted a bid for Cardoso, but it now appears that his move to Spurs is closer than ever.

Sources have informed TBR Football’s chief correspondent Graeme Bailey that Tottenham have until July 10th to finalize a deal for Cardoso.

The good news for Ange Postecoglou is that the transfer is considered “likely” to be completed, given the opportunity at hand.

From Cardoso’s perspective, he is keen on joining Tottenham and confident in his ability to perform at the club – a reassuring factor for Spurs, as the deal ultimately depends on the player’s willingness.

Given his outstanding form, it’s no surprise that the 23-year-old is backing himself to succeed at the highest level.

Yves Bissouma could depart Tottenham this summer, and if that happens, it would open up a spot in midfield for the American defensive midfielder to fill.

Will Tottenham sign any midfielders apart from Johnny Cardoso?

Tottenham fans will be hoping the club’s summer midfield reinforcements don’t stop at Cardoso.

TBR Football understands that Tottenham could sign two new midfielders before the start of next season.

One of them is Angel Gomes, who Tottenham are reportedly “pushing hard” to sign.

Gomes has decided to leave Lille this summer on a free transfer.

Daniel Levy is personally keen on securing Gomes’ signature, and the prospect of seeing the England international and Cardoso in the same midfield is one that Spurs supporters are eagerly hoping becomes a reality in the coming months.
