Leeds United have already orchestrated a significant transfer this summer with the sale of academy prospect Archie Gray. This transaction has bolstered their transfer budget and alleviated financial concerns as they prepare for a challenging Championship campaign.
Ben Jacobs has exclusively informed GIVEMESPORT that the Whites are not compelled to sell Crysencio Summerville this summer. However, the winger could still depart if an attractive offer materialises.
Summerville, who clinched the Championship Player of the Year Award last season, couldn’t propel Leeds to promotion. Despite his efforts, the Whites faltered in the automatic promotion race and succumbed to Southampton 1-0 in the play-off final, marking their second consecutive season in the second tier.
There was speculation that Summerville would leave, as previous winners of the award often advance to Premier League football. However, Jacobs suggests that Leeds’ ‘bullish’ stance on his valuation might deter potential suitors.
Summerville Linked with Elland Road Exit
Everton have shown considerable interest in Summerville, but their acquisition of Leeds’ Jack Harrison on another loan deal early in the window, coupled with the arrival of Iliman Ndiaye from Sheffield United for around £17 million, makes a move for another winger unlikely.
Last summer, Burnley made a £20 million bid for Summerville, which Leeds promptly rejected. Newcastle United are also reportedly interested in the former Feyenoord player, although they have yet to submit a formal bid. Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano reports that Leeds are now seeking around £40 million if Summerville is to leave.
Jacobs: Summerville Sale “Realistic” But No Bids Yet
Speaking exclusively to GIVEMESPORT, Jacobs noted that while Chelsea and Newcastle have shown interest, no bids have been made, and Summerville could remain at Leeds. However, there remains a realistic possibility of his departure. Jacobs stated:
“If the player says he wants to move, Leeds sources indicate they’ll be very understanding of that, and at the right price he could still go. So there remains a realistic chance that Summerville is sold, but Leeds don’t have to sell due to financial concerns anymore, so they can be a little bit more bullish and that definitely puts them in a stronger position. Chelsea and Newcastle from the Premier League are two clubs that have looked, but neither have bid – and even after Chelsea missed out on Olise, wanting a winger that can play either right-sided, left-sided or both, they haven’t moved for Summerville.”
Summerville Stay Would be Huge for Promotion
If Summerville stays at Leeds by the end of the summer transfer window, it would be a significant boost, as fans are well aware of his capabilities at the Championship level.
Other players like Willy Gnonto, Georginio Rutter, and Illan Meslier might attract attention from top clubs, but Summerville remains the player Leeds most want to retain, given his outstanding performances at Elland Road.
Gray’s departure to Tottenham Hotspur for £40 million has set a precedent, and Leeds are likely to aim for a similar fee for the 22-year-old Dutchman. However, if no suitable offers come in, Summerville will continue to don the Whites shirt next season.
