Sean Dyche set to anger Ange Postecoglou ahead of Saturday’s fixture after what Everton are about to do [Full Story]

TEAMtalk has revealed that Everton have opened talks with the centre-back over a new contract to extend his stay at Goodison Park, a potential blow for Tottenham in their alleged pursuit of Ben Godfrey.

It has been widely reported over the past few weeks that Godfrey, who fell out of favour under Sean Dyche, is on Spurs’ wishlist in January (Football.London).

In fact, 90 mins last week even claimed that the Lilywhites are willing to pursue a transfer for the central defender as Everton are willing to pay for the player.

Everton in contract talks with Ben Godfrey
However, if the latest information from TEAMtalk is to be believed, the Toffees have now started talks with Godfrey’s entourage about a new contract.

They explain that the Merseyside club does not want to allow the centre-back to enter the final year of his contract and will instead be open to offers for him next month if they are unable to tie him down to a new deal.

The report states that Spurs are just one of “a number of clubs” monitoring the former Norwich City player’s situation.

Finally, the publication adds that Everton should “do everything in its power” to prevent the 25-year-old’s departure in next month’s transfer window.

Given that Godfrey has only made two Premier League appearances all season, I don’t see why he would sign a new contract with Everton. Several clubs would probably have already contacted those looking after the defender to discuss a possible transfer.
