Tyler Herro is spreading the festive spirit in style, as the Miami Heat star is reported to have distributed very generous gifts to a number of children.
In addition to gift vouchers, the 23-year-old is also expected to give away autographed shoes, clothes and jerseys.
Herro is in his fifth NBA season and recently returned after a lengthy absence caused by an ankle injury. He scored a total of 53 points in two games after not playing since 8 November.
He returned on Monday along with Bam Adebayo, who missed time with a hip injury. The Fever lost a game against the Minnesota Timberwolves but beat the Orlando Magic on Wednesday.
They have a home game against the Atlanta Hawks on Friday before hosting the Philadelphia 76ers on Christmas Eve, 16-12.
Herro has led the Heat in scoring in every game he has played since his return. In early November, he was injured in the first quarter of a game against the Memphis Grizzlies and missed 18 games with a sprained right ankle.
The University of Kentucky product apparently remained involved with the Heat after rumours of his replacement last season. He wasn’t part of the deals for Damian Lillard, Jrue Holiday or Bradley Beal, but now he’s Miami’s top scorer at 23.6 points per game in 10 appearances.
Adebayo, who missed seven games due to a recent illness, is second on the team with 22.0 points per game, while Jimmy Butler is third with 21.5 points per game.
Herrera’s return comes at a very good time for the Heat, who have been struggling with injuries all campaign. Butler will miss his second consecutive game and sixth of the season on Friday against the Hawks with a strained left calf.
Miami remains a convincing Eastern Conference playoff contender and is in seventh place heading into Thursday’s game.
With Herrera spreading the goodwill, the Heat should enter the holiday season in high spirits and poised for even greater success in the 2023-24 NBA season.
