Reporter Paul Brown doesn’t expect Alfie Dorrington to get a chance in Ange Postecoglou’s first team, even though the youngster has been in outstanding form for the Under-21s this season.
Dorrington has been one of Tottenham’s most prominent players in Premier League 2 this season, starting every game in the competition and arguably even outscoring the highly-rated Ashley Phillips, who was signed from Blackburn Rovers in the summer.
The Tottenham academy graduate has also proved his worth in the England Under-19 squad, with some journalists suggesting in recent months that the teenager could quickly break into the first team (Alasdair Gold – YouTube channel).
Postecoglou (Football.London) has spoken enthusiastically about the centre-back, but he has made the matchday squad several times in recent months due to Tottenham’s injury problems.

However, Dorrington has not yet made his senior debut and Jones believes his debut may not be forthcoming as he claims other players are still ahead of him.
The reporter told GiveMeSport: “Postecoglou has mentioned Dorrington a number of times, but there are others ahead of him. It was good to see him on the bench and I think that’s key for young players to see a pathway into the team.
“Some of the younger guys are maybe one step closer than him. But it’s good to see him get a chance to play and I think Postecoglou knows that Spurs want to promote some youngsters if they can. So I think it’s good that he’s been involved.”
I don’t think Ange Postecoglou will be treating Phillips or Dorrington to a first team debut any time soon as the Australian coach sees both players as ones for the future.
I think Spurs would seriously consider loaning Dorrington to an EFL club next season to give the youngster a taste of senior football, preferably at Championship level.
