Leeds United winger Dan James missed the 2-0 victory over Hull City due to a “slight” hamstring injury, according to BBC Radio Leeds commentator Adam Pope.
The Wales international’s absence was the only change in the starting line-up for the match at Elland Road, with Manor Solomon stepping in and making an immediate impact by providing an assist on his debut.
Pope, speaking live on air on 31 August, mentioned that the injury to James is not believed to be serious, and there is optimism that he will be back in action soon.
“It’s Manor Solomon who comes in for Dan James, who I understand has a slight hamstring strain, so hopefully we’ll see him quickly after the international break,” Pope said before the match.
James has been a key figure for Leeds, having quietly contributed to the club’s attacking prowess last season. He ended the campaign as the joint second-highest scorer for the Whites, netting 13 Championship goals alongside Joel Piroe.
His pace and finishing ability were on display again recently when he scored a crucial second goal in Leeds’ first win of the new season against Sheffield Wednesday.
In James’ absence, Manor Solomon, on loan from Tottenham, seized his opportunity.
Despite his history of injuries, Solomon was handed a start just four days after his arrival at Elland Road, suggesting that he has already impressed in training. The Israeli international did not disappoint, quickly making his mark by setting up a goal in the win over Hull City.
Largie Ramazani, another recent signing who joined from Almeria five days earlier, started on the bench. The decision to field Solomon ahead of Ramazani indicates that the 25-year-old has been the standout performer in training sessions at Thorp Arch.
While James’ injury does not appear to be a long-term concern, it has opened the door for Leeds’ new recruits to make their presence felt.
Solomon’s performance will certainly give manager Daniel Farke something to ponder as the team heads into the international break, with the onus now on the Spurs loanee to continue staking his claim for a regular spot in the starting XI.
