Steve Clarke has made several adjustments to his Scotland squad ahead of the Nations League fixtures against Poland and Portugal.
The Scotland manager was forced into action following a spate of injuries, including two key Celtic players, prompting him to draft in replacements.
In a move that has raised eyebrows, Clarke has handed debut call-ups to four players. Among them are a Rangers midfielder and a former Hibs defender, marking a significant opportunity for these players to make their mark on the international stage.
One of the new faces in the squad is Josh Doig, who currently plies his trade with Sassuolo in Italy. Doig, who made his name at Hibs, is one of three debutants brought into the fold.
Joining him is Dundee goalkeeper Jon McCracken, a surprise inclusion given his relative inexperience at the top level.
The third call-up goes to Rangers midfielder Connor Barron, a summer signing from Aberdeen who has made a solid start to his career at Ibrox.
Barron’s inclusion is particularly noteworthy as it reflects Clarke’s willingness to inject fresh talent into the squad amid the ongoing injury crisis.
On the other hand, the squad sees the omission of two Celtic players. James Forrest and Greg Taylor have both been dropped, with the latter’s absence likely to be felt given his recent form. Adding to Clarke’s selection headaches, Torino forward Che Adams has also withdrawn from the squad.
Further complicating matters, former Rangers goalkeeper Robby McCrorie is also unavailable for the upcoming matches. McCrorie, who had been tipped for a place in the squad, is sidelined as he continues to recover from a hip injury.
Clarke’s revised squad now faces the challenge of gelling quickly as they prepare for crucial matches in the Nations League.
