Celtic’s 3-0 derby triumph over Rangers on Sunday was a clear demonstration of their current superiority.
Goals from Daizen Maeda, Kyogo Furuhashi, and Callum McGregor handed Brendan Rodgers’ side a commanding victory at Celtic Park, underscoring their dominance in Scottish football.
Despite the convincing scoreline, some voices, including Ibrox boss Philippe Clement and pundit Graeme Souness, presented a different perspective.
Clement, in a curious attempt to downplay Celtic’s performance, suggested the game could have ended 3-3, while Souness expressed his frustration on talkSPORT, seemingly struggling to accept the outcome.
The reality is that Celtic are significantly ahead of Rangers at the moment, both on and off the pitch. The disparity was evident on Sunday, and it appears that at least one individual at Rangers recognises this.
New signing Vaclav Cerny, reflecting on the match, admitted his side was “outclassed,” saying:
“We didn’t do well at all, they outclassed us in everything. Now we have to catch them at any cost, that’s our main goal.”
He further contrasted the Scottish derby with those from other European leagues, noting, “I haven’t seen such a rivalry for a long time… compared with our main derby it is far bigger and more brutal.”
Cerny also highlighted the overall quality of Scottish football, stating: “There are obviously better quality clubs and lesser quality ones. The top four teams in Scotland at least all have great football quality.”
Looking ahead, Celtic have the chance to widen the gap over Rangers to eight points before their next encounter.
They will host Hearts next Saturday, followed by a challenging away fixture against Dundee United. A strong performance against Hearts could increase the pressure on Rangers, who will need to deliver results to keep pace.
