Jesse Marsch has provided an injury update on Alistair Johnston following the defender’s knock while on international duty with Canada.
The Celtic full-back had to leave the field during Canada’s 2-1 victory over the USA, raising concerns among the Parkhead faithful.
Johnston has impressed since the start of the season, and with key Champions League fixtures looming, fans were anxious about the severity of the injury.
However, Marsch has sought to ease fears, explaining the nature of Johnston’s injury and offering a hopeful return timeline for the 25-year-old.
“Alistair said he felt a little bit of tightness in his hamstring and he felt it was smarter to step out. I am hopeful that he will be okay,” Marsch said.
Johnston was instrumental in Celtic’s 3-0 triumph over Rangers at Parkhead last weekend, providing the assist for Daizen Maeda’s opening goal.
In his absence, Anthony Ralston is expected to step in, while new summer signing Alex Valle, primarily a left-back, has experience playing on the right during his time at Barcelona.
