The discussion surrounding Falkirk’s commendable performance in their League Cup defeat at Celtic Park has continued, with John McGlynn’s side receiving plaudits for their spirited display on Sunday afternoon.

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers shouldered the responsibility for his side’s sluggish first-half display, having made eight changes to his squad following their midweek Champions League commitments. With several key players rested, the Hoops looked disjointed and allowed Falkirk to capitalise.

Donaldson explained on The Big Football Podcast: “I was so proud of how the boys stuck to our task. And I think the biggest mark of respect was Brendan Rodgers actually came into our changing room whilst the gaffer was still speaking and just said how impressed he was.
“Not only in the way that we played during the game but in his analysis of us building up, he said it was a joy to look at how we play and that we play the same way every week. So I think these compliments are nice, but I think as a professional footballer, we were still disappointed with the way that the last 20 minutes went.”
Both Falkirk and Celtic deserve recognition for their contributions to what was an enthralling League Cup tie.
Falkirk, in particular, impressed with their pressing game, forcing Rodgers’ side into errors and giving themselves a foothold in the match by taking the lead on two occasions.
