West Ham United’s 1-1 draw with Brentford on Saturday was overshadowed by rumours of a heated bust-up between Mohammed Kudus and manager Julen Lopetegui. Despite the match, all the focus has shifted to what went on behind the scenes.

They’ve made it clear to the Ghanaian’s agents that there’s no ongoing issue between Kudus and Lopetegui, seemingly attempting to squash any suggestion that the player should start looking for a new club.
This step by the owners feels unusual. Typically, a player would reach out to his own representatives if there was a problem, but here the club has taken the initiative.
The only logical explanation is that West Ham’s hierarchy want to reassure Kudus and his agents that the situation has been blown out of proportion and there’s no need to worry about his future at the club.
Kudus Vital for West Ham but Possibly a Short-Term Stay
Despite the efforts to calm the situation, there remains speculation about Kudus’ long-term future at West Ham. Many fans feel that Kudus’ arrival might just be a stepping stone to bigger things.
Some even believe he’s being “parked” at West Ham for a couple of seasons before a move to one of the Premier League giants.
Adding fuel to this theory was Kudus’ appearance at the Emirates on Tuesday night, watching Arsenal’s Champions League clash with PSG.
With his quality, it wouldn’t be a surprise if he were to join the Gunners next summer. Kudus arrived at West Ham from Ajax for around £38 million in 2023, and it was widely regarded as a coup for the Hammers.
His instant adaptation to Premier League football has only increased his stock, and it seems inevitable that bigger clubs will come calling.
For Lopetegui to ensure a successful 2024/25 season, keeping Kudus fit and motivated will be crucial. He’s a game-changing talent, and West Ham need him firing on all cylinders.
Although the so-called bust-up appears to be behind them for now, it’s unlikely this will be the last we hear of it. With the January transfer window on the horizon, the story could well resurface as clubs start circling for Kudus once again.
