Rangers will return to European action on Thursday as they face Lyon in the Europa League, hoping for a better outcome than their Glasgow rivals.
Celtic were handed a humiliating 7-1 defeat by Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League last night, despite scoring within the first ten minutes of the match.
Celtic’s winning streak came to an abrupt halt as the Bundesliga giants dismantled them with ease.
Brendan Rodgers’ side had entered the game with nine straight victories in all competitions, but the step up in class proved too much as defensive errors were ruthlessly punished.
Borussia Dortmund, last season’s runners-up, had not lost in 12 Champions League games at home, and they made a blistering start. Captain Emre Can slotted home a penalty after Celtic keeper Kasper Schmeichel brought down Jamie Gittens.
Celtic responded quickly, with Daizen Maeda scoring an equaliser, but that was as good as it got for the Scottish champions.
Dortmund’s Karim Adeyemi netted twice, and Serhou Guirassy made it 4-1 from the penalty spot after Arne Engels fouled Adeyemi in the box.
Adeyemi completed his hat-trick just before half-time, with Guirassy adding a sixth after the break. Felix Nmecha then came off the bench to score Dortmund’s seventh, sealing a bruising night for Celtic.
Meanwhile, on the domestic front, Luis Palma’s future at Celtic is becoming a talking point.
The winger has struggled for game time under Brendan Rodgers, making only two appearances in the Scottish Premiership this season.
Despite rumours that Celtic are looking for potential replacements ahead of the January transfer window, Palma has reportedly made a personal decision to stay and fight for his place.
According to El Heraldo (via the Daily Record), the 24-year-old wants to “repay the trust” of Rodgers, with whom he has a strong relationship.
Palma has also decided to take a break from social media to focus on his football and improve his standing at the club, despite slipping down the pecking order at Parkhead.
