Leicester City could make a significant addition to their squad in the January transfer window, with Tottenham Hotspur’s Archie Gray reportedly on their radar for a potential £50m move.
The Foxes, eager to bolster their ranks, are looking to avoid another relegation battle after a rocky start to the season.
The Midlands club made nine signings during the summer in an attempt to rebuild under manager Steve Cooper.
However, their efforts have yet to translate into consistent performances on the pitch. A 2-0 loss to Nottingham Forest in their most recent Premier League outing has left Leicester languishing in 15th place, just five points clear of the relegation zone.
With only two wins from their first ten matches, the pressure is mounting.
Leicester’s upcoming clash with Manchester United presents another tough test, but fans are already looking ahead to January, hoping for reinforcements.
Among the names linked is Mostafa Mohamed, a forward they narrowly missed out on during the summer. However, another exciting prospect has emerged: Tottenham’s young talent, Archie Gray.
Archie Gray to Leicester: A Realistic Move?
Gray joined Spurs from his boyhood club Leeds United in the summer of 2024 for a reported fee of £38m.
Despite his promise, the 18-year-old has struggled for regular game time, clocking just 41 minutes of Premier League action this season across 10 appearances.
A return to Leeds has been speculated, but pundit Carlton Palmer believes a Premier League stay is more likely, with Leicester City a viable destination.
Palmer told Football League World:
“He’s highly rated, but his game time has been affected, he hasn’t had enough game time. He has only played 393 minutes of action in all competitions so far this season, so the question remains, will they let him go out on loan?
“If they do let him go, Leeds may have just missed out on his return with Premier League clubs interested. It would be a great bit of business if they could pull it off, but there will be lots of competition for the midfielder.
“I don’t think he’d want to go to the likes of Southampton, who are struggling, maybe Leicester City, who are just outside the drop.”
A Perfect Fit for Leicester?
Although Leicester have not officially declared their interest, Gray’s profile makes him an ideal signing for Cooper’s side. Primarily a right-back, Gray’s versatility allows him to slot into different roles, which could address one of Leicester’s key weaknesses.
The Foxes’ current options at right-back have come under fire, with James Justin particularly criticised for his performance in their recent 5-2 drubbing against Manchester United. Justin’s underwhelming displays have been a recurring theme this season, leaving fans desperate for an upgrade.
Signing Gray would not only provide much-needed depth but could also inject fresh energy into a squad short on confidence.
At just 18, Gray represents a long-term investment with the potential to develop into a key player for Leicester.
His arrival would offer Cooper a reliable alternative to Justin, addressing a glaring issue in the Foxes’ defensive setup.
With the January window looming, all eyes will be on Leicester’s moves. If they can fend off competition for Gray’s signature, it could prove a decisive turning point in their fight for survival.
