Leicester City defender Harry Souttar has shared his thoughts on his future as he continues to thrive during his loan spell at Sheffield United.
In the summer transfer window, Leicester boss Steve Cooper decided that Souttar needed time away from the King Power Stadium.
The Australian centre-back found himself out of favour, with Wout Faes and Caleb Okoli established as the preferred defensive pairing.
Souttar subsequently joined Sheffield United on loan, where he has flourished. His performances have won over the Blades’ supporters, many of whom are already calling for the club to make his move permanent.
Harry Souttar provides verdict on Leicester future
Speaking to The Star, Souttar expressed his gratitude for the opportunity and hinted at a willingness to extend his stay in Yorkshire.
“Absolutely,” he said when asked about his future at Sheffield United. “Absolutely. I’m here until the summer, that’s a guarantee.
“So whatever happens after that is out of my hands a little bit but in terms of my feelings towards the club, it’s given me a lot and the gaffer’s put a lot of trust in me. And I want to repay him for that.
“My focus has just been on Sheffield United. I’m aware that I’m a loan player and that’s my parent club but my focus and communication has all been on this club. What we’re doing on and off the pitch.”
The 26-year-old joined Leicester from Stoke City in January 2023, but his time in the East Midlands has been far from smooth.
Souttar right to move on from Leicester
Souttar made only four appearances for Leicester during their Championship campaign under former manager Enzo Maresca. The arrival of Cooper hasn’t improved his fortunes, with the current manager opting for other defensive options.
Given his form for Sheffield United and the trust placed in him by manager Paul Heckingbottom, a permanent move to Bramall Lane could be the best outcome for all parties.
With the Blades pushing for promotion and currently sitting in an automatic promotion spot in the Championship, Souttar could soon find himself back in the Premier League – this time as a key player.
