Everton’s head of recruitment, Dan Purdy, is reportedly in talks to join PSV Eindhoven, according to sources at Football Insider.
The potential move would reunite him with Marcel Brands, Everton’s former sporting director, who now oversees recruitment at the Dutch club.
Brands’ interest in Purdy coincides with significant developments at Goodison Park. The Friedkin Group, led by US billionaire Dan Friedkin, is on the verge of finalising a takeover of the Merseyside club.
This potential change at the top could herald a shake-up within Everton’s recruitment team as Friedkin sets the stage for a new era.
Purdy, 30, has a long-standing association with the Toffees. He initially left his role as scouting and operations manager in 2022 following Brands’ departure but was persuaded to return in March 2023 by current director of football Kevin Thelwell.
His possible departure now raises questions about Everton’s preparedness for the January transfer window, a critical period for Sean Dyche’s side as they fight to maintain their Premier League status.
Everton currently sit 16th in the table, having recently secured a point in a goalless draw against West Ham.
The club’s summer transfer dealings brought in the likes of Jake O’Brien, Iliman Ndiaye, and Armando Broja, but further reinforcements are likely needed to secure safety.
It’s understood that the Friedkin takeover could be completed before the new year, potentially unlocking funds for a crucial transfer window. Whether Purdy will still be part of Everton’s plans by then remains to be seen.
