Mohamed Elneny could leave Arsenal soon.
Arsenal signed Mohamed Elneny in January 2016 for £5 million to secure his services from Swiss club Basel.
Since then, the Egyptian centre-forward has been a great servant for the north London club, but he has never been a regular player to be played regularly. In all competitions, the 31-year-old has made 159 appearances for Arsenal, scoring six goals and ten assists.
Although he has his limitations as a player, Arsene Wenger, Unai Emery and Mikel Arteta have been able to rely on Elneny to give his all and work hard for the team when called upon. He is an excellent passer of the ball and brings experience and calmness to the team.
However, the time has now come that Elneny can no longer contribute at the level Arsenal need. Arteta’s team is now a real contender for the Premier League title. Elneny is not a player who can bring them closer to that goal.
The player has only made one Premier League appearance this season, against Sheffield United, when he was on the bench as injuries and a low ranking limited his opportunities.
Elneny loves Arsenal and the fans respect him, but now might be the ideal time for Arteta to move him on.
Why Arsenal should sack Mohamed Elneny:
According to the Daily Mail, Elneny may be “on the verge” of leaving Arsenal, with Turkish clubs Trabzonspor and Besiktas interested in the player.
Although it is unlikely that the Gunners would extract any noteworthy compensation for the Egyptian international, who has 97 captaincy titles, they would certainly deserve to get rid of his £55,000 a week salary. The club invested heavily in the last summer transfer window, spending a record £105 million on Declan Rice.
A further £65 million was spent on Kai Havertz and Jurrien Timber cost the club £38 million. Arsenal are also expected to spend £27 million on the transfer of David Ray, who has been loaned out on a permanent basis.
Sales and player cuts are necessary for Arsenal to meet FFP regulations after this spending frenzy. Elneny’s departure would help them in that sense and could give them more leeway in bringing new faces to the club.
