Sean Dyche admitted responsibility for Everton’s lacklustre display in their goalless draw against 10-man Brentford, acknowledging his side’s failure to capitalise on a golden opportunity.
Facing a Brentford team without a win or clean sheet this season, Everton were handed a significant advantage when Bees captain Christian Norgaard was sent off in the first half for a reckless lunge on Jordan Pickford.
Despite dominating possession and recording 27 efforts on goal, the Toffees were unable to break down Thomas Frank’s resilient side.
In fact, Brentford created the game’s best chances, with Pickford forced into crucial saves to deny Yoane Wissa and Keane Lewis-Potter in one-on-one situations.
The draw, which extended Everton’s winless streak, was met with frustration and boos from the Goodison Park faithful at the final whistle.
Speaking after the game, Dyche admitted his disappointment and took full responsibility for the performance.
“They can direct it at whoever they want,” he said of the fans’ reaction.
“They expect us to win. I expect us to win. It’s our responsibility and my responsibility to make sure we do better than we did today.”
Everton’s inability to make the most of their advantage leaves them in need of a spark to ignite their campaign.
