Ipswich Town’s Premier League rivals Leicester City have parted ways with manager Steve Cooper following their 2-1 defeat to Chelsea.
The Foxes, who secured promotion alongside Ipswich last season by winning the Championship title under Enzo Maresca, have struggled to adjust to life back in the top flight.
Maresca departed for Stamford Bridge in the summer, leaving Cooper to step into a challenging role. However, his tenure failed to inspire, with fans unable to connect with his approach.
Currently sitting 16th in the Premier League and hovering dangerously close to the relegation zone, Leicester’s hierarchy decided to act ahead of their crucial trip to Brentford this weekend. It is unclear if a new manager will be in place by then, but several candidates are already in the frame.
Favourites for the Job
Graham Potter leads the pack at 5/4, according to Sky Bet. The former Brighton and Chelsea boss was initially approached in the summer but reportedly declined due to concerns over a potential points deduction. With those fears now quashed, Potter may reconsider.
Former West Ham manager David Moyes (7/4) is also in contention, while Ruud van Nistelrooy (11/4), who recently left Manchester United’s coaching staff, is another strong contender. Coventry City’s recently dismissed Mark Robins (12/1) is a surprise name on the list.
Other potential options include West Brom’s Carlos Corberan and Lee Carsley (both 20/1), with further outside bets including Edin Terzic, Gareth Southgate, and Michael Carrick (all 25/1).
Ipswich Town recently drew 1-1 with Leicester at Portman Road, with Leif Davis scoring for the Blues before Jordan Ayew equalised. Ipswich will visit the King Power Stadium for their final away match of the season on May 18, 2025.
