Nottingham Forest are confident of tying down defender Ola Aina to a new contract, according to sources at Football Insider.

The 28-year-old’s current deal is due to expire at the end of the 2024-25 season, but negotiations over an extension are well underway. Club officials are optimistic about securing his long-term future at the City Ground.

Aina has established himself as a vital part of Nuno Espirito Santo’s team since joining Forest in 2023 on an initial one-year deal, later extended by 12 months.

The Nigerian international has seen off competition to cement his place as the club’s first-choice right-back, while also showing versatility by featuring at left-back earlier this season.

The 40-cap Nigeria international has been ever-present in Forest’s Premier League campaign so far, starting all 12 matches and missing just two full 90-minute performances. He has also contributed offensively, scoring a goal in the recent 3-0 victory over West Ham.

Despite his contract situation, Aina remains focused on his role at Forest. However, as things stand, he will be free to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs in January.

The defender previously enjoyed a successful five-year spell in Serie A with Torino, making 113 appearances.

Under Nuno’s guidance, Forest are thriving this season, sitting seventh in the Premier League table after 12 matches. With 19 points already on the board, they are comfortably 10 points clear of the relegation zone.

Securing Aina’s future would be another step in solidifying the club’s progress, as they aim to maintain their strong start and push for a top-half finish.
