Leicester City are in the market for a new manager following the dismissal of Steve Cooper on Sunday evening.
GIVEMESPORT sources have revealed that West Bromwich Albion boss Carlos Corberan is among the leading candidates for the role, alongside Ruud van Nistelrooy and Lee Carsley.
The decision to part ways with Cooper comes after the Foxes managed just two wins from their opening 12 Premier League games.
Despite sitting outside the relegation zone, the Leicester hierarchy felt a change was needed to revive the team’s fortunes.
Now, the search for a successor has begun, with several names linked to the King Power Stadium vacancy.
Corberan Leads the Race for Leicester Job
According to GIVEMESPORT sources, Corberan is viewed as a top contender for the role. The Spaniard, known for his tactical acumen and development of teams, is seen as an “elite” candidate who could revitalise Leicester.
Van Nistelrooy and Carsley, both fresh from interim spells at Manchester United and England, respectively, are also in the mix.
Leicester are looking for a manager who can connect with both the players and fans, something Cooper struggled to achieve.
The disconnect became glaring after reports emerged of players partying in a Danish nightclub with a sign reading “Enzo, I miss you” displayed, shortly before Cooper’s dismissal following a 2-1 loss to Chelsea.
Corberan, a candidate for the job last summer, is considered a stylistic fit. Leicester believe he can build on the tactical framework laid by Enzo Maresca and potentially bring a new dimension to the team.
Crucially, sources claim Corberan would be willing to leave West Brom mid-season if offered the opportunity.
Van Nistelrooy and Carsley in Contention
Van Nistelrooy’s brief tenure at Manchester United has not gone unnoticed. The Dutchman impressed during his four matches in charge, which included two wins against Leicester, effectively giving him an “audition” for the role.
Similarly, Carsley’s tactical proficiency during his time with England has caught the attention of Leicester’s decision-makers.
Corberan’s Track Record
Though he is yet to manage in the Premier League, Corberan has made a name for himself in the Championship.
Having worked as Marcelo Bielsa’s assistant during Leeds United’s promotion campaign, he later transformed Huddersfield Town from 18th-place strugglers into play-off finalists within two seasons, narrowly missing out on promotion to Nottingham Forest at Wembley.
Since taking over at West Brom, Corberan has worked wonders, pulling them out of the relegation zone and into the play-off race.
This season, the Baggies are again in contention for promotion, operating on a minimal budget. Leicester’s resources would provide the 40-year-old with his first significant opportunity to manage at the top level.
If appointed, Corberan’s combination of tactical expertise, player development, and proven results in challenging circumstances could offer Leicester the fresh start they desperately need.
