Tottenham Hotspur take on Burnley in the FA Cup Third Round at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Friday.
Tottenham Hotspur come into this game on the back of a 3-1 win over Bournemouth in their last league game. Tottenham Hotspur’s win was scored by Senegalese midfielder Pape Matar Sarr, South Korean striker Son Heung-min and Brazilian striker Richarlison. Alex Scott scored for Bournemouth.
In their last league game, Burnley lost 3-2 to Aston Villa. Jamaican winger Leon Bailey, French winger Moussa Diaby and Brazilian midfielder Douglas Luiz scored for Aston Villa. Swiss striker Zeki Amdouni and South African forward Lyle Foster scored for Burnley, for whom Norwegian midfielder Sander Berge was sent off in the second half.
Postecoglou made a big change to his team for the defeat to Fulham in the Carabao Cup in August, although given Spurs’ ongoing injury problems and the absence of Heungmin Son, Yves Bissouma and Papa Sarr in international tournaments, he has little chance of making a big change against the Clarets.
Ange Postecoglou admitted that Tottenham captain Son Heung-min will be a “big loss” in the coming weeks, but urged other squad members to do their best in his absence.
Spurs host Burnley in the FA Cup third round on Friday night and it is the first of six games Son could miss while he is with South Korea in the Asian Cup.
Son has scored 12 goals this season but Postecoglou’s team will also miss his influence off the pitch as vice-captain Cristian Romero and James Maddison are still injured.
“Sonny, if you name the team of the year right now, he’s in it,” Postecoglou said. “He’s been a great player for us.
It’s a big loss for us, another one, and we’re really going to have to raise everyone’s level to cover the absence of another important contributor for us this season.”
Oliver Skipp and Bryan Gil are competing for rare starts, while full-backs Pedro Porro and Destiny Udogie may need a rest.
Alejo Veliz is the latest to succumb to injury after going off on New Year’s Eve against Bournemouth, joining James Maddison, Cristian Romero, Manor Solomon, Ivan Perisic and Ryan Sessegnon on the sidelines.
