Greg Taylor was caught venting his frustration at Celtic teammate Cameron Carter-Vickers after the left-back’s mistake led to Rangers’ opening goal in the Premier Sports Cup final.
Celtic, sitting atop the Premiership, endured a tough first half against Philippe Clement’s side. Their struggles culminated when Taylor’s misplaced pass in the defensive third handed possession to Hamza Igamane.
The Rangers attacker surged forward, forcing a save from Kasper Schmeichel, only for Nedim Bajrami to convert the rebound, putting the cup holders ahead.
Taylor and Carter-Vickers immediately appealed for offside against Bajrami, but the flag stayed down, and a VAR review confirmed the goal.
In the aftermath, Taylor was visibly frustrated, first slamming the turf in anger before directing his protests at Carter-Vickers.
It seemed the Scotland international was unhappy with the lack of passing options in the build-up to the error, prompting Schmeichel to step in and diffuse the tension.
While Taylor tried to downplay the incident, Celtic fans were less forgiving. Social media was flooded with criticism of the left-back, with one fan on X saying: “Greg Taylor, that is enough now. Clear mistake.”
Another added, “Greg Taylor should never play for us again.”
Calls for Taylor to be replaced also surfaced, with one fan declaring: “Greg Taylor is not good enough for Celtic’s first team. Alex Valle is the better option. Pretty much everyone knows this, so why doesn’t Brendan Rodgers?”
The error leaves Taylor under scrutiny as Celtic look to bounce back.
