Leicester City are reportedly considering a loan move to bring Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall back to the King Power Stadium, following the midfielder’s struggles for regular game time at Chelsea, according to former Manchester United chief scout Mick Brown.
Chelsea signed Dewsbury-Hall from Leicester in the summer, alongside manager Enzo Maresca, in a high-profile double swoop.
However, the 26-year-old has struggled to make an impact, starting just eight matches across all competitions and featuring only sporadically in the Premier League.
The recent arrival of Ruud van Nistelrooy as Leicester’s head coach has injected fresh optimism into the club, as they focus on maintaining their Premier League status.
Bringing Dewsbury-Hall back could bolster their survival hopes, given his influential role in their promotion from the Championship last season.
Leicester Eye Dewsbury-Hall Return
Speaking to Football Insider, Brown revealed that Leicester are among the clubs monitoring Dewsbury-Hall’s availability. Despite signing a five-year deal with Chelsea, the midfielder is reportedly open to a move in January.
“There are a number of clubs interested in him, and from what I’ve heard, one of those clubs is Leicester,” Brown said.
“He did very well during his time there, helped get them into the Premier League and earned his big-money move to Chelsea. It’s not quite worked out for him there, but he’s still very highly thought of.
“If Chelsea want to offload him in January, Leicester will have been made aware of his availability. Even if it’s not a permanent deal, because they’ll want to make back at least the £30million they paid for him, a loan move could happen.
“He’s the type of player they need, and I think he’d be interested in a return as well, so it’s a deal that would work for all parties.”
Last season, Dewsbury-Hall became a fan favourite at Leicester, contributing 12 goals and 15 assists in 49 appearances. As a product of the club’s academy, his return would likely energise both the squad and supporters.
While Chelsea’s high price tag may make a permanent move challenging, a loan deal could offer Leicester a short-term boost.
With Leicester just two points above the relegation zone, Van Nistelrooy is expected to use the January transfer window to strengthen the squad further, possibly targeting defensive reinforcements like Manchester United’s Victor Lindelof alongside midfield upgrades.
