Chris Sutton wasted no time mocking Rangers after their dramatic Scottish League Cup final defeat to Celtic on Sunday.
Celtic triumphed 5-4 on penalties after an enthralling 3-3 draw following extra time, lifting the trophy in a match that will sting deeply for Rangers.
For manager Philippe Clement, the result will only add to the scrutiny he faces, despite his team’s spirited performance.
Former Celtic striker and now outspoken pundit Sutton took to his X account on 15 December to aim a dig at Rangers.
“Well played Celtic and Brendan Rodgers,” Sutton wrote.
“Absolutely relentless. Another moral victory maybe for Rangers though…”
Rangers’ Struggles Under Clement
With an 11-point deficit in the league, the Scottish League Cup had offered Rangers their most realistic shot at silverware this season. However, the defeat to Celtic leaves their hopes hanging on the Scottish Cup and Europa League.
Clement had shown signs of turning things around at Ibrox, with a solid draw against Tottenham in midweek suggesting the team was heading into the final with momentum. Yet the Belgian manager now faces serious questions about his ability to deliver success.
