Tottenham agree to loan RB Leipzig striker Tim Werner until the end of the season.
The Spurs will cover the 27-year-old’s salary in full until the end of the current season and there is an option to buy the striker at the end of the season.
Germany’s Sky reports that Werner could be loaned out permanently for £15.5 million after the end of the season.
Sky Sports News reported earlier in the week that the former Chelsea player was offered to Manchester United in the January transfer window, but it now looks like he will return to London this month.
German international striker Timo Werner is on the verge of a transfer to Tottenham Hotspur.
Football Insider reports that the 27-year-old RB Leipzig striker will undergo a medical with the north London club tomorrow and will join them on loan.
Tottenham will have the option to make the transfer permanent at the end of the season for around £30 million.
The 27-year-old has already played in the Premier League with Chelsea and it will be interesting to see if he can hit the ground running. Tottenham need reinforcements in attack and a versatile striker like Werner would certainly come in handy. The German international is capable of operating anywhere in the front three and will add goals and creativity to the North London team.
His loan until the end of the season could prove to be a bargain for the English club, especially if he establishes himself immediately. Werner managed to win the Champions League title with Chelsea last term in England and now we will see if he can help the North London team win the trophy this season.
The 27-year-old has had a mediocre campaign with the German club so far, so it is not surprising that they are willing to allow him to leave on a short-term deal. RB Leipzig will be hoping he does well at Tottenham so they can secure his permanent loan in the summer.
