The relationship between Nottingham Forest and Olympiacos remains strong, anchored by the stewardship of Evangelos Marinakis, who owns both clubs.
Marinakis has a proven track record of success in football, boasting numerous league titles with Olympiacos and a historic European trophy last season – the first ever for a Greek club.
Marinakis’ influence has extended to Nottingham Forest, where he oversaw their return to the Premier League in 2021/22 and has provided the resources needed to establish the club in the top flight.
His leadership was further strengthened with the recent appointment of trusted associate Lina Souloukou.
Over the years, there has been a steady exchange of players between the two clubs, with Andreas Bouchalakis, Gustavo Scarpa, Josh Bowler, and Joao Carvalho among those to have switched between Forest and Olympiacos.
However, one rising star from the Greek side appears unlikely to join the Reds any time soon.
Charalampos Kostoulas unlikely to join Forest
Charalampos Kostoulas, a young striker making waves in Athens, has sparked speculation among Olympiacos fans about a potential move to Nottingham Forest.
Despite his growing reputation, top Greek journalist Konstantinos Lianos has dismissed the idea. Writing on X, Lianos said:
“People asking me if Babis Kostoulas could be switched to Nottingham Forest. But Forest don’t need him and Babis doesn’t need them. Olympiacos have big plans for the UEFA Youth League. Key figures getting contracts until 2030, no one planning to sell to #NFFC.”
Kostoulas on Forest’s radar?
While Lianos’ comments suggest Kostoulas isn’t currently on Forest’s radar, the situation could change.
Marinakis has a history of leveraging his dual ownership to secure talent for Forest. If a rival Premier League club were to show interest in Kostoulas, Marinakis might prioritise a deal with Forest instead.
Kostoulas’ performances this season underline his potential. He has scored three goals and provided one assist in 11 appearances, including five outings in the Europa League.
As Forest continue to search for a young, talented striker to complement Chris Wood, Kostoulas could become an appealing option.
Forest were snubbed by Santiago Gimenez in the summer, leaving their need for reinforcements in attack unresolved.
Kostoulas, with his youth and promise, could be an ideal long-term solution – a prospect Marinakis might want to keep in mind for the future.
