A potential Tottenham move for Celtic’s Reo Hatate is being discussed as the January transfer window approaches.

Despite Christmas being weeks away, transfer rumours around Parkhead are already heating up. Speculation has linked Kieran Tierney with a return to Celtic, while Alex Valle is reportedly being eyed for a move back to Barcelona.

Now, another intriguing possibility has surfaced, with a claim that Ange Postecoglou may target one of his former signings at Celtic.

Reo Hatate joined the Hoops in the 2021/22 season, arriving as part of a Japanese trio alongside Daizen Maeda and Yosuke Ideguchi.

While Ideguchi has since left, Hatate has flourished in Glasgow, becoming one of Celtic’s standout performers.

He announced himself with a memorable display in a derby win over Rangers shortly after his arrival and has been a key player ever since.

With Tottenham currently grappling with a spate of injuries, Postecoglou is reportedly considering a reunion with Hatate to strengthen his midfield.

Speaking on the Spurs Chat Podcast, a journalist with experience at the BBC and Sky Sports suggested that Celtic may struggle to resist a substantial offer for the 25-year-old.

He said: “The last midfielder I’m going to talk about is Reo Hatate.

“He scored one of the penalties in the shootout against Rangers. Ange knows and trusts the player, he does like a goal or two as well. He’s one I could certainly see happening. If Spurs go in with a reasonable transfer fee Celtic will find it hard to keep him.”

Should Tottenham formalise their interest, it could spell a significant test for Celtic as they look to retain one of their most valuable players.
