Former Celtic and Rangers prospect Wallace Duffy has experienced a whirlwind end to the year, playing for three different clubs in just two months.
The 25-year-old has now committed to Highland League side Brora Rangers, just weeks after joining their rivals, Strathspey Thistle.
Duffy’s new two-and-a-half-year deal with the Cattachs will see him remain with the Sutherland-based club until the conclusion of the 2026/27 season.
His move to Strathspey Thistle came after his departure from Inverness CT, which was forced into administration, leaving Duffy and several teammates without a club.
Inverness CT announced that Duffy, alongside Adam Brooks, Cameron Ferguson, and Flynn Duffy, had departed immediately. Additionally, former loanee Jack Newman was sent back to his parent club, Dundee United, as part of the cost-cutting measures.
The club has been in administration for over two months, with BDO overseeing its operations.
Reports suggest that Inverness has already rejected a takeover bid, though there is interest from 15 parties. Joint-administrator James Stephen has stated his intention to identify a “preferred bidder” by next month.
Duffy’s time at Strathspey Thistle was brief, as Brora Rangers quickly moved to secure his services.
The Cattachs are firmly focused on the title race, hoping to overtake Brechin City at the top of the table. Brechin City narrowly missed out on the title last season, losing to Buckie Thistle on goal difference.
Brora manager Steven Mackay shared his excitement about the signing, saying:
“Wallace will give us the discipline and professionalism you’d expect from someone coming from a full-time background.
“He’s fit, athletic and has a good stature. Despite only being 25 Wallace comes with a lot of Scottish League experience. I’m really pleased to have him on board and I think he’ll complement the squad we’ve already got. Signing Wallace adds competition for places, it adds more solidity to our defence, this season. We’ve looked really impressive going forward but at times I think we’ve needed to be a bit more solid at the back.”
Duffy began his football journey in Glasgow with Rangers before moving to Celtic. He made a single appearance for Celtic’s U20 side in the Scottish Challenge Cup before pursuing first-team football elsewhere.
After a spell with St Johnstone, which included a loan to Greenock Morton, Duffy joined Inverness, where he played for four years.
Now, with his move to Brora Rangers, he begins another chapter in his career, bringing valuable experience and defensive strength to his new team.
