After Monday’s win over the Rockets to start their current home stand, the Miami Heat are 21-15. They moved into fourth place in the Eastern Conference, just 2.5 games behind the third-place Sixers.
Considering that trade rumours have been the hottest topic in the NBA for the last six months, this is not a bad result, as Heat president Pat Riley is a month ahead of the trade deadline.
The focus of the Heat trade rumours was, of course, point guard Damian Lillard. But when the Heat missed out on a deal for him, it was assumed that they would make a trade for the star player in the coming months anyway. But a month before the NBA trade deadline, trade rumours in the Heat have died down.
Former Sixers James Harden? No thanks.
Bulls star Zach LaVine? Not interested.
Another Bull, DeMar DeRozan? No talk.
Cavaliers star Donovan Mitchell? He’s not doing anything.
Remember when Heat star Tyler Herro responded to the Heat trade rumors two weeks ago by saying that the team didn’t need to make a trade, that the roster was good enough to win as it is? It seems like the whole organisation believes that.
“They are an interesting team when it comes to the trade deadline,” one of the Eastern Conference leaders told Heavy Sports. “Because if you listen to everybody else, they want to make some big moves. But if you listen to them and look at what they’re actually doing … they’re not doing it.”
