Wolverhampton Wanderers are on the verge of finalizing the signing of Emmanuel Agbadou, a centre-back from Stade de Reims.

The Premier League side have reportedly agreed on an €18 million transfer fee, with an additional €2 million in potential add-ons, for the Ivory Coast international.

The 27-year-old is set to undergo a medical on Monday and, subject to a successful work permit application, will sign a four-and-a-half-year contract at Molineux, including an option for an additional year.

Wolves have prioritized strengthening their central defense in the January transfer window following significant setbacks earlier this season.

The departure of Maximilian Kilman to West Ham United during the summer and the season-ending ACL injury sustained by Yerson Mosquera in September have left the club in urgent need of reinforcements.

Their recent shift to a back-three formation has further emphasized the need for depth in this area.

Agbadou joined Reims in the summer of 2022 from Belgian club Eupen and has been a key player for the Ligue 1 side. This season, he has made 15 appearances across all competitions, starting 14 of Reims’ 15 Ligue 1 matches and often wearing the captain’s armband.

As Wolves prepare for their Monday night clash with Nottingham Forest, they sit precariously in 17th place in the Premier League, just one point above the relegation zone. The addition of Agbadou is expected to bolster their defensive ranks as they fight to maintain their top-flight status.
