Brendan Rodgers shuffled his lineup significantly, making five changes as injuries sidelined several key players.
Daizen Maeda and Nicolas Kuhn were unavailable, with the manager confirming their absence pre-match, while James Forrest also missed out.
The match had its tense moments, especially after Kyogo opened the scoring only for Jordan White to equalize from the penalty spot.
However, Celtic regained control as Kyogo notched a second goal, and late strikes from Arne Engels, via a retaken penalty, and Luke McCowan secured a comfortable win.
Sutton Takes a Dig at Rangers Over Injuries
Chris Sutton hailed Celtic’s resilience and used the occasion to take a swipe at Rangers manager Philippe Clement, who has frequently attributed his team’s struggles to injuries.
Sutton pointed to Celtic’s ability to maintain their form despite similar challenges, as they extended their lead at the top of the Premiership to 18 points.
Posting on X, formerly Twitter, Sutton remarked:
“Another big 3 points from mentality monsters Celtic. No moaning about injuries… just ploughing on with what they have.”
The former Celtic striker also praised the performances of Kyogo and Yang:
“Encouraging performance from Yang. Kyogo sublime.”
VAR Drama Adds to the Spectacle
Celtic’s victory wasn’t without its share of drama, with the game stretching over 100 minutes due to lengthy VAR deliberations.
Alistair Johnston conceded a penalty after a foul on Jordan White, and it took an extended review before officials decided to send referee Matthew MacDermid to the monitor for a potential foul on Yang by James Brown.
This isn’t the first time Sutton has criticized Clement’s comments about “resources” when discussing Celtic’s dominance, and today’s result only seemed to reinforce his point.
