Leicester City have completed the signing of right-back Woyo Coulibaly from Italian side Parma for a transfer fee of approximately £3 million.
The 25-year-old French defender, who can also operate as a left-back, joined Parma from Le Havre in 2021 and has made 88 appearances for the Serie A club, contributing one goal and six assists.
This acquisition marks Leicester’s first signing of the January transfer window, as they aim to strengthen their defense amid a challenging Premier League campaign.
The Foxes have conceded 44 goals in 20 matches, the joint-second highest in the league, prompting the need for defensive reinforcements.
Coulibaly’s arrival is expected to provide competition for James Justin, who has faced criticism for his performances and has been the sole recognized right-back following an injury to Ricardo Pereira.
Leicester’s decision to sign Coulibaly comes after opting not to pursue Southampton full-back Kyle Walker-Peters, whose £7 million valuation was deemed too high given the club’s current financial considerations and relegation concerns.
The Foxes are hopeful that Coulibaly’s experience in Serie A and versatility in defense will contribute positively as they strive to improve their league standing and secure Premier League survival.
