Everton’s new manager, David Moyes, will have limited resources to work with in the upcoming January transfer window, sources have revealed to Football Insider.
Moyes has made a return to Goodison Park, signing a two-and-a-half-year contract to replace Sean Dyche, who was dismissed following poor results. He takes charge with Everton sitting 16th in the Premier League, just one point above the relegation zone.
Aware of the club’s financial challenges, Moyes will need to navigate the mid-season transfer window, which closes on 3 February, under significant financial constraints.
Loan Signings the Only Option for January
Reports suggest Everton will be restricted to loan signings this month, with just one domestic loan spot still available.
Moyes has acknowledged the situation and has expressed his ambition to bring in “elite” players ahead of the club’s planned move to a new stadium for the 2025-26 season.
Sources also indicate that Moyes could receive a more substantial transfer budget in the summer if he manages to secure Everton’s Premier League survival for the remainder of this campaign.
Financial Boost on the Horizon
The takeover by The Friedkin Group (TFG) is expected to provide a much-needed financial injection, while Everton’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) compliance is anticipated to improve significantly after the current season. This could open the door for more robust squad investments in the summer transfer window.
Upcoming Fixtures and Current Squad
Moyes will oversee his first match on Wednesday (15 January) against Aston Villa. The Toffees are still competing in the FA Cup and are set to face Bournemouth in the fourth round on 8 February.
Currently, Everton have Jesper Lindstrom, Armando Broja, and Orel Mangala on loan. Any squad improvements in January will need to come from additional loan deals, given the club’s financial limitations and PSR obligations.
