Summer Celtic transfer target Mateusz Bogusz has completed a record-breaking transfer to Liga MX side Cruz Azul.

The Polish forward was heavily linked with a move to the Scottish Premiership champions last August, but the proposed transfer never materialized.

Bogusz instead finished the 2024 season with LAFC, where he delivered an impressive campaign, scoring 20 goals and providing 11 assists across 40 appearances in all competitions.

Despite his standout performances, Celtic did not renew their interest in the 23-year-old after the summer window.

According to Transfermarkt, Bogusz has now joined Cruz Azul for a fee of $9 million. The move not only marks a significant milestone in the player’s career but also sets a new record for LAFC as their highest-ever transfer fee received.

Additionally, the deal places Bogusz among the top 20 most expensive outgoing transfers in MLS history. He will now team up with Giorgos Giakoumakis in Mexico.

Had Celtic pushed for the signing, they would have had to meet the substantial asking price. However, the return of the Portuguese winger to the club is imminent.

The 25-year-old is currently in Glasgow and is expected to sign a long-term contract, with an official announcement anticipated soon.
