Riyad Mahrez sent a heartfelt message to his former Leicester City teammate Jamie Vardy after the striker’s cheeky celebration aimed at Tottenham, referencing their infamous 2016 title collapse.
Vardy’s goal early in the second half sparked a comeback for Leicester City as they secured a 2-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League on Sunday.
After netting the equalizer just moments after halftime, the veteran forward sprinted towards the home fans, held up a number one gesture while pointing to the Premier League badge on his sleeve, and then flashed a zero towards the Spurs supporters.
This was a clear jab at Tottenham, who famously fell short in the 2015-16 title race as Leicester clinched the league in one of football’s most remarkable underdog stories.

On Leicester’s Instagram post showcasing Vardy’s celebration, their former star Riyad Mahrez left a comment for the English forward, writing: “Never change.”
With his goal at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, the former England international matched a record held by Teddy Sheringham, Ryan Giggs, and Cristiano Ronaldo, achieving 10 or more goal involvements in the top flight at the age of 37 or older.
In the 2024-25 season, the 38-year-old has scored seven goals and provided three assists in 21 league appearances.
Ruud van Nistelrooy’s side will return to action on February 1 in the Premier League, facing Everton at Goodison Park.
