Wolves have announced the late signing of another center-back on transfer deadline day, securing the services of Nasser Djiga from Red Star Belgrade.
With the Old Gold conceding an average of 2.2 goals per Premier League game in the 2024/25 season so far, bolstering their defensive line was a top priority during the winter transfer window.
New manager Vitor Pereira acted swiftly early in the window to bring in Emmanuel Agbadou from Reims for a reported £16.6 million, and he was eager to add another center-back before the market closed at 11 pm on Monday, February 3rd.
After a deal for Kevin Danso collapsed at the last minute—with the defender opting to join Tottenham Hotspur instead—Wolves ultimately finalized the signing of Djiga on deadline day.
The center-back joins the club for a reported fee of around €12 million, bringing significant experience, including eight appearances in the UEFA Champions League this season.
Wolves confirmed the signing of Djiga in a statement on their official website, with the player signing a contract that runs until 2030.
Speaking about the acquisition, Wolves’ Sporting Director Matt Hobbs said: “Central defence is an area we’ve been looking to strengthen this window, and Nasser is a player we believe can strengthen the squad, both in the short and longer term.
“Since Vitor came in, that back three has been consistent, but Nasser’s the quick, aggressive center-back we’ve been looking for to help the group, and we’re looking forward to seeing him fight for his place.”
How Djiga performed at Red Star Belgrade prior to Wolves transfer:
The 22-year-old initially joined Red Star on loan from parent club FC Basel in 2023, with the Serbian giants retaining an option to make the move permanent at the end of the 2023/24 season.
After an impressive debut campaign—helping Red Star secure a league and cup double—the club exercised their option to sign Djiga permanently.
Since then, the Burkina Faso international has continued to develop, offering defensive stability and even contributing in the final third.
His attacking prowess was particularly evident during one of his eight UEFA Champions League appearances this season, where he scored one goal and provided an assist in a 3-2 defeat to PSV Eindhoven in gameweek seven.
Red Star are optimistic that Djiga will continue to grow at Wolves, reportedly securing a 10% sell-on clause to benefit from any future transfer involving the defender.
