Everton have secured the signing of Argentinian midfielder Carlos Alcaraz on loan from Flamengo for the remainder of the 2024/25 season, with an option to make the deal permanent in the summer.
The 22-year-old, who previously featured in the Premier League with Southampton, becomes David Moyes’ first acquisition since his return as Everton manager last month.
Alcaraz began his professional career at Racing Club in Argentina, making his senior debut at just 17 years old. He famously scored the winning goal in the 2022 Argentine Champions Trophy final against Boca Juniors.
Speaking about his move, Alcaraz told evertontv: “I am very happy to join Everton, such a great club, with a very good fanbase. I’m looking forward to starting training with my teammates and seeing the fans at the stadium.
“I am ready for any challenge with this beautiful club. That’s why I accepted the offer—to keep fighting for my dreams. I want to tell the fans that whenever I wear this shirt, I will give my best and give everything to take Everton to the top, where they deserve to be.”
Alcaraz joined Southampton in January 2023 and made an immediate impact, netting seven goals in his debut season. His performances also earned him a call-up to the senior Argentina national team.
In January 2024, he moved to Juventus on loan, making 12 appearances and helping the club win the Coppa Italia. He then transferred to Flamengo last summer, where he scored three goals and provided two assists in 19 matches.
Everton manager David Moyes expressed his satisfaction with the signing, stating: “We’re happy Carlos has agreed to join us on loan until the end of the season.
“We’ve been looking to add players to the squad to give us more depth, particularly after the recent injuries we’ve picked up.
“Carlos has Premier League experience, he’s still young, and we believe he can bring some energy to the team, which will help us between now and the end of the season.”
