A Hibs vlogger has shared the clearest footage yet of the controversial incident at Easter Road yesterday afternoon, where VAR official Alan Muir overturned the on-field decision to disallow a Daizen Maeda goal that would have leveled the score for Celtic.
Muir made a ‘factual decision’ that the ball had gone out of play when Alistair Johnston delivered his cross from the Hibs bye-line.
This new evidence, while not entirely conclusive, raises significant doubts about Muir’s decision, which was reportedly based on footage from a camera positioned on the 18-yard line.
The footage shared by the Hibs vlogger, taken from the byeline, does not provide a definitive answer either, making it highly unlikely that Alan Muir, as the VAR official, could have made a factual call to overturn the on-field decisions of both the linesman and the referee.
Notably, the linesman, who was a few meters behind the play, did NOT raise his flag, and match referee Steven McLean initially allowed the goal to stand.
Celtic must now urgently request the release of the VAR audio. Even with this latest footage, it remains impossible to conclusively determine whether the ball was out of play, meaning Alan Muir should not have been able to overrule the on-field decision. That is the most definitive conclusion that can be drawn.
