Ianis Hagi is set to leave Rangers as a free agent at the end of the season unless there are any last-minute changes to his contract situation.
The Romania international was initially excluded from first-team training at the start of the season due to a contract dispute with the club.
However, Hagi returned to the squad in October after resolving the issue and went on to become a key player under Philippe Clement, who was dismissed last month.
With three goals and seven assists in 19 Premiership appearances, the attacker has also featured in both of Rangers’ matches under interim manager Barry Ferguson.
Despite his contributions, Rangers risk losing Hagi for free this summer as his current contract is set to expire.
Adrian Mutu tips Hagi for Turkey transfer
Turkey has emerged as a potential destination for Hagi, with Adrian Mutu suggesting it would be an ideal move given the player’s father, Gheorghe Hagi, is “super-loved” there for his achievements with Galatasaray.
While Italy is another possibility, Mutu highlighted that Hagi struggled to make an impact during his previous stint with Fiorentina between 2016 and 2018.
Mutu expressed strong support for a move to Turkey, calling it a “sensational” and “crazy” opportunity.
“On a media level, it would be crazy if he went to Turkey, after what Gica [Gheorghe Hagi] did there”, Mutu told Fanatik, as quoted by ProSport (2 March).
“Ianis has been to Italy before, he didn’t manage to establish himself there, like in other places.
“It wouldn’t be bad for him to end up in Turkey. Gica [Gheorghe] is super-loved there, it would be crazy if he does well there, it would be something sensational for Ianis.”
Rangers’ woeful transfer business continues
