Former Rangers star Craig Moore has reignited the Old Firm facilities debate by declaring Auchenhowie as Scotland’s premier training complex, following news of impending upgrades under prospective owner Andrew Cavenagh.
The Australian defender’s comments came in response to Record Sport’s exclusive about Cavenagh’s planned renovations at Rangers’ training base, which Moore experienced firsthand during a recent visit.
Speaking on Go Radio, Moore didn’t mince words when comparing the rival facilities:
“I remember I came back nearly five years ago after some bad weather which is normal for Scotland I guess and I went into the training ground early doors and it looked a little bit ragged at that time.
“There has been improvements and by all accounts with this report there looks to be more improvements. It is a fantastic training centre. It is the best training ground in the country.”
When pressed by host Paul Cooney about Lennoxtown’s standing, Moore doubled down:
“Absolutely. It is not even a rammy. It has nothing to do with Rangers and Celtic. Lennoxtown is great but in terms of the set-up, space and structure and infrastructure at Murray Park – it used to be called before Auchenhowie – it is the best training ground in Scotland.”
Moore’s assessment follows Cavenagh’s recent inspection of the facility during his takeover reconnaissance trip, which coincided with Rangers’ dramatic Europa League victory over Mourinho’s Fenerbahce.
While acknowledging Celtic’s Lennoxtown as a quality setup, Moore emphasized Auchenhowie’s superior infrastructure, spatial advantages and organizational layout as setting it apart in the Scottish game.
These comments add another layer to the perpetual rivalry between Scotland’s two footballing giants, this time shifting the battleground to training ground credentials.
