VAR reviewed the moment but opted not to prompt referee Darren England for an on-field reassessment.

In the aftermath, the Premier League Match Centre shared its stance on X, stating: “The referee’s call of penalty for the challenge by Lewis-Skelly on Harrison was checked and confirmed by VAR – with the contact deemed to be sufficient for a penalty and inside the area.”

Lucy Ward, a former Leeds women’s striker providing commentary for TNT Sports, endorsed the ruling.

She remarked: “Myles Lewis-Skelly misjudges the bounce and was always second best to get to it. Ndiaye had to wait a long time but he was coolness personified and sends Raya the wrong way.”

Heading into the fixture, Arsenal trailed league leaders Liverpool by 12 points, fully aware that any slip-up could jeopardize their faint hopes of reeling in Arne Slot’s rampant Reds.

The stalemate means Everton have inadvertently handed their Merseyside neighbors yet another advantage ahead of Liverpool’s upcoming clash with Fulham at Craven Cottage on Sunday.

Slot’s squad now requires just 11 points from their final eight matches to secure the championship.
