ZeeboiScott Allan believes Adam Idah needs to leave Celtic if he’s to establish himself as a first-choice striker.
The Hoops invested £9million last summer to secure the services of the forward, who’d been a standout during a six-month loan spell, capped by his Scottish Cup-winning goal.
Idah played a pivotal role in steering Celtic to the league title, delivering vital goals against teams like Hibs, Motherwell, and Rangers.
His performances persuaded the Parkhead hierarchy to pay the second-highest transfer fee in the club’s history to sign him permanently from Norwich.
Yet, doubts linger over whether the hefty price tag was justified, as Idah has struggled to lock down a regular spot in the starting lineup.
The Irish striker has scored 14 goals in 45 appearances, though most of those have been substitute cameos.
Even with Kyogo’s unexpected move to Rennes in January, Idah hasn’t seen a significant uptick in playing time, thanks to Daizen Maeda’s blistering form, with the latter racking up 30 goals.
Former Celtic midfielder Allan argues that Idah’s next step is almost certainly a move elsewhere to reignite his career trajectory.
Speaking on Clyde Superscoreboard, he said: “It’s not a bad return, but I think there could be more in there. Ultimately, you have to compare it with Maeda because he is the number one striker at this moment in time.
“Coming on for those final 10 or 20 minutes in games, there is pressure on you because you’re trying to keep up with someone who is delivering week in and week out in Maeda.
“I think for Adam Idah personally, he has to be playing games and more minutes to improve. There’s no question of that.
“We see it time and time again at either of the Old Firm clubs, where they have to move on to then develop.
“Further down the line, people might ask, ‘Why didn’t he get that opportunity at Celtic or Rangers?’ That’s the problem. Maeda is a better footballer. He offers more to the team at this moment in time.
“For me, long-term Adam Idah will have to move away to get regular football because there’s no question that Celtic will be adding quality in that department come the summer again.”
